Date Night: At the Disco

Hi Babes!

Ok, raise your hand if you’ve ever been to a silent disco? 🙋🏻

A couple weekends ago, I took Michael to his very first silent disco during Washington DC’s free, annual, overnight arts festival “Art All Night,” which takes place across 8 neighborhoods in the District.

So if you’ve never been to a silent disco, here’s how it works…

Upon arriving, we were handed a nice pair of headphones that had three channel settings. Each channel is tuned to a different DJ, so if you don’t like what DJ1 is playing, you can move on to DJ2 or DJ3. This leaves partygoers with no excuse to NOT shake their booties.

Each DJ’s channel is assigned a colored LED light so that you can figure out what your friends are listening to. This particular disco was an ode to hiphop and each DJ had their own vibe going, so unlike your typical dance party, there was truly never a moment where we couldn’t find a groove we liked.

The coolest thing about this event, for me, was the location. The disco was held in the Shaw/U Street neighborhood in the courtyard directly across from the Howard Theatre, beneath the bright “Washington” mural on One Love Massive HQ’s wall. As people were heading to the bars and restaurants nearby, they stopped en masse to watch the ‘disco’ in total amusement. It’s gotta be pretty hilarious to watch a group of beautiful, happy, people twerk and sing their hearts out with no background music!

This event was SO. FUN. and an awesome reminder of why I love living in D.C. We are more than just a federal district. This community is filled with amazing, diverse people who work hard but know how to play just as hard, too. It’s part of the reason why I started this blog: to share with all of you the spice of life that can be enjoyed in the nation’s capital! Thanks to Silent Party DC for having us.

Check out their next event happening on Halloweekend.

What I Wore

So I’m not gonna lie, I probably could have chose a more practical outfit (dancing in an 100% alpaca sweater is not the cutest idea.) But at the same time, I actually loved this look! I felt soooo confident and classy.

I’m wearing a marigold sweater by Mara Hoffman (check my last blog for more on why this color will be in my closet all season long!) What I love most about this sweater is that its quality is its biggest attribute. When you look at the piece aesthetically, it’s pretty understated. It’s mid-length and has beautiful rounded sleeves. But the look and feel of it in person is what makes it special.

I finished the look with a leather pencil skirt by Eloquii, in which I french-tucked the sweater, statement earrings by Lizzie Fortunato and some caged heels from Forever21 that have been in my closet for years. I’ll drop a link to a similar pair below, but a true fashionista always mixes the old with the new and the bargains with the expensive!

Date Night: Momofuku and City Center DC

Monday, Monday! Did anyone else have a rough start today?! I was dragging and no amount of coffee seemed to help with my productivity, so I’m currently listening to Robyn’s new single to put some pep in my step. But, we had an awesome weekend, so I guess that’s the trade off for how tired I am today.

My boyfriend works in hospitality, so when our opposite schedules allow, we make it a point to go out and do something new or tried & true for our date nights. As you might have already seen on your Insta feed, the new umbrella installation is now up at City Center DC. We saw it too, and decided check out the display and grab a bite at Momofuku afterwards.

City Center DC

City Center consistently ranks at the top of lists highlighting DC’s best Instagram spots, thanks to their quirky seasonal installations in the shopping center’s main corridor, Palmer Alley.  My all-time favorite has been the pink kites, which debuted Spring 2018. But I never saw those in person, so I was dead-set on snapping some looks with the multi-colored umbrellas. The weather was perfect, so posing beneath a colorful display of umbrellas without having to worry about any precipitation was delightful.

About 500 photos later…. he’s so patient! 😂

Momofuku CCDC

After CCDC, we headed over for a late night bite and drink at Momofuku, a restaurant that has evolved quite a bit since its opening in 2015. When I first came to Momofuku, people were lining up for the ramen, buns and the adjacent Milk Bar. Flash forward almost three years, Momofuku has a new chef that’s shaking things up a bit.

We didn’t photograph everything, but check out some of the small plates and drinks we tried:

Foreign Affair – mezcal, yellow chartreuse, DC aperitivo, lemon (his)
Tokyo –London gin, salt plum, cherry cordial, lime, soda (mine)

Bing Bread with Maryland Blue Crab Dip

Bing Bread with Path Valley Farms cultured butter, honey, gochugaru

Hamachi Crudo– green apple dashi, horseradish chili oil (bottom)

Dry Aged Beef & Lamb Dumplings– scallion oil, dried chili (top left)

Smoked Carolina Trout Dip– Momofuku roe, furikake (top right)

About The Outfit

I’ve found that late September/early October is a tricky time of year for planning a look. Now, this could be because I was born and raised in Florida…but do you find yourself jumping the gun on wearing your new Fall clothes only to be sweating by 12pm? Just me? OK! 😂 So here’s my formula I’ve developed for what I call ‘Septober’:

STATEMENT JACKET + GRAPHIC TEE + SLIM CUT DENIM (Good American: ‘Good Waist’ High Waisted Jeans in Blue161) + TALL BOOTS (Just Fab: Nava Heeled Boot – Wide Calf) = YAS.

This works for me because 1) You can remove your jacket if you’re feeling warm and still look bomb. 2) It works for both day and night. 3) It’s versatile because you can switch up the type of tee or wear colored denim. This night, I did a longer tee, but a fun crop top can also work for bar-hopping or dancing.

Not bad for a random Friday night, huh?! If you’re downtown, definitely go take a picture with the umbrellas (and tag #CCDCFall!), and then stop in to Momofuku for drinks & bites. Tell them I sent you 😉

Mi Bonita Punta Mita

Hi Babes! Today I wanted to backtrack a little bit to late last month, when my boyfriend Michael and I went on an epic 5-day vacation to Puerto Vallarta and Punta Mita, Mexico. We spent one day in Puerto Vallarta to enjoy the mountain views and a dolphin swim. Then, we took a 45 minute ride up the West coast of Mexico into Nayarit state to stay at the GORGEOUS Four Seasons Resort in Punta Mita to #RELAX and #RECHARGE!

From the minute we arrived at FS Punta Mita, it felt like our lifestyle had instantly changed, which is exactly what I wanted out of an R&R vacay! We were greeted everywhere with cold towels and the most delicious passion fruit margaritas and coconut mojitos a girl could imagine. I mean, this place is like Disney World for adults! The resort is huge, but one of the coolest things is that the staff is available 24/7 to whisk you around wherever you want to go. From the accommodations to the many amenities available on the property, it was an unforgettable vacation. The people of Mexico are so welcoming and full of life. Certainly one of the most beautiful, relaxing, and paradisiacal experiences we’ve had in our lives!

Check out some brief highlights from our trip below. I’ll link outfit and excursion details where I can!

A quick hello…

Hi, friends! I’ve got to say that this blog is a long time coming. I’ve tossed around in my head the idea of starting a blog for years. The truth? I’ve been so nervous just by the thought of it. Will people find me interesting? Will I find enough time in my day to maintain a presence? Ultimately, and many thanks to encouragement from my amazing friends, family and even followers I’ve never met, I’ve decided to throw all of the negative thoughts out the window. So, here I am, just saying hello. Stay tuned this week for my first ‘real’ post!

With love and gratitude,
