Priscilla Ono X Eloquii

Hi babes!

Last week, my prayers to the fashion gods were answered when a new collaboration by celebrity makeup artist Priscilla Ono (Fenty Beauty’s Global Makeup Artist AND Rihanna’s personal MUA!) and plus-size fashion mega-brand Eloquii dropped. It’s the first time a major plus-size brand collaborated with a makeup artist to create a collection, and a unique touch of Ono’s expertise is apparent in every single piece of the line. My favorite, of course, is the utility belt that holds a cell phone, a makeup compact, and your favorite lipstick.

What I love most about this collection is how much it pushes the existing boundaries of plus-size fashion (not that there should be any!) For so long, only straight-size bodies were able to find runway-inspired fashion on the racks. It’s long been a pet peeve of mine that the fashion industry assumes that all plus-size women are looking for clothing with comfort and flattery in mind. THAT’S 👏🏼 NOT 👏🏼 ME! Priscilla Ono X Eloquii pushes all those boundaries the heck out of the way and serves us neon, bold, daring, sexy, sophisticated looks on a silver platter!

The collection features 12 gorgeously vibrant pieces available in sizes 14 through 28. I styled 5 of the pieces for your viewing pleasure! 😇 I felt so seen & included when I tried on the various pieces from this collection! I hope you love it too so we can have a NEON MOMENT together!

Thank you, Priscilla Ono and Eloquii for believing that the plus-size body doesn’t need to be hidden away, but celebrated. What better way to celebrate than a brazenly inclusive, trendsetting collection like this one? The Priscilla Ono x Eloquii collection is available online and in stores now!

Valentine’s Day: Two Outfits, One Color Scheme

Hi Babes!

I’ve truly been MIA focusing on grad school and life in general, but I’m so pumped to be checking back in with you all. I’m glad we all survived the longest month EVER. January was wild, wasn’t it?

Now we’re just a couple days away from Valentine’s Day! I know that people generally have mixed feelings about this holiday. Some call it “Single Awareness Day,” and others wonder why we need a “special” day to celebrate our loved ones. I try to put the focus on the act of sharing love. We live in very tumultuous times and hate is abound. I’m fine with devoting a day to showing love to our partners, our friends, our families and our communities.

I have a really cute Valentine who knows the way to my heart is via my sweet tooth, so that’s a plus! But I also love this holiday because it’s perfectly good excuse to wear pinks and reds, especially together! I’ve been absolutely enamored by maroon & mauve color combinations. Whether you have a hot date with your hunny or are planning a Galentine’s brunch with your girls, here are two looks inspired by my favorite color pairing of the moment.

Date Night

SHOP THE LOOK: Knit Bodycon by Sanctuary | Gold Pumps by Louboutin (similar) | Statement Earrings by Kate Spade | Clutch by Furla

My day job is in a very low-key atmosphere and my personal street style is becoming more relaxed these days. So, I often reserve my tight dresses for when I’m going on a date night with my hunny. For this look, I paired this maroon knit turtleneck bodycon dress by Sanctuary with gold pumps, statement earrings and a mauve clutch. It’s pretty chilly out, so I appreciated the supportive thickness of the fabric as well as the length. I love this look because it’s very sexy and glamorous, but there’s still enough fabric that it’s weather appropriate. The mauve accents add a touch of romance, and gold pumps offer some edge to the overall look.  I’m not gonna lie, forgoing a coat was a bad idea. I was cold!

Galentine’s Day

SHOP THE LOOK: Fit and Flare Dress by Donna Morgan | Nude Pumps by Stuart Weitzman| Pink Cocoon Coat by J.Crew |Maroon Beret

When you’re with your girls, anything goes! I can’ think of a more perfect time to break out your cutesiest pretty-in-pink looks and rock them with your girl squad. From that mindset, this look was born!

I paired this mauve fit and flare dress with nude pumps, a light pink cocoon coat and topped the look off  with the cherry on top: this SUPER affordable maroon beret. This look is pink-as-pepto 😂 but I felt like Cuban barbie! It’s definitely more pink than I’d wear on average, but the perfect look for mimosas on Galentine’s Day.

Happy Valentine’s Day, darlings! I hope everyone has a beautiful day surrounded with all of the love you deserve.

xoxo,

Jaclyn

Her Evening Elegance

HELLOMG!

Wow, it’s really been a minute, my lovelies! It’s been such a busy time, but I have a lot in the works that I’m so excited to share with all of you. How has everyone been? Hanging in there? Sharing my disbelief that Thanksgiving is THIS WEEK?! Well, there’s no denying it now. The holidays are REALLY here.

You know what that means….it’s party dress time! And just in time, the amazing folks at Simply Be, a brand that I’ve long-loved, sent me a gorgeous party gown to review for my followers.

Simply Be has been a leader in the plus size fashion industry for years. Available in sizes 8-28, their size-inclusive, fit-focused styles are beloved by plus-size women who appreciate their thoughtful designs. If you’ve never shopped with Simply Be, I highly recommend them! (Read to the end for a coupon code!)

On a night out on the town with my honey, I slipped into the “By Night Sweetheart Lace Bardot Maxi Dress,” ($60.99) and it treated me sooo well. Its deep navy blue material is a thick scuba stretch knit, and the sleeves are a matching stretch lace. The details don’t stop there, Simply Be leveled up with the bardot neckline and a fishtail hem! Gorgeous!

The dress runs slightly large, depending on how you prefer your fit. I like to show my curves, so the size 14 worked perfectly for me.

To pull the outfit together, I chose to go with an old Hollywood vibe. The gown does a lot of the work to satisfy that theme, but I accessorized with a vintage mink shrug from my FAVE local DC business Fia’s Fabulous Finds, classic jewelry, gold pumps and a vintage clutch.

I can’t wait to wear this gown again! I received so many compliments, one woman said to me: “You look expensive!” Let me remind me you that this gown is only $60. It just goes to show that when you mix old with new, vintage with trendy, you can look absolutely fabulous without breaking the bank. And I am ALL about that.

Falling For Fall

Hi Babes!

Fall is my FAVORITE time of year, but it’s also bittersweet because it comes and goes so quickly. There’s honestly nothing better than that first autumn wind that whips across your cheek to let you know that it’s time to harvest your closet for jackets, scarves and boots. Today’s post is an homage to the early days of fall, where a beautiful dress and some sharp boots can make you feel like a super woman.

This is me, feeling like a super woman:

Location. Location. Location.

This shoot was so much fun. Honestly, any shoot I do with my amazing, visionary bestie Kamaria Roberts is going to be fun, but this was my first “golden hour” shoot specifically for the purpose of my blog. We were up and at em by 5:45 AM to make it to our location, The National Cathedral, by 7:15 AM.  The Cathedral is undeniably gorgeous, but every time I visit I am more blown away by its intricacies. The flying buttresses, the stained-glass windows, the gorgeous gardens, the gargoyles! What a dream.

jac106jac76

Fun fact: The National Cathedral features a total of 112 gargoyles, 215 stained glass windows and a sculpture of Darth Vader.

The Look

I found this beautiful dress at Eloquii in Pentagon City a couple weeks back when I was attending a panel discussion for National Curves Day. I spotted it on a distant rack labeled “samples”, or should I say it spotted me? Others around me can attest that I fell in love with it instantly. I mean seriously, when I look at this dress, the soundtrack to The Sound of Music plays in my head 😂. I WAS INSPIRED.

I paired the beautiful embroidered fit and flare dress with a couple of items I already had in my closet: a pair of cognac faux-suede thigh high boots and a matching wide buckle faux-suede belt. Eloquii head-to-toe, what else is new? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Since these items are a little older, they won’t be available on the web. But, you know I’ve got you, so I’m linking some alternatives below.

I hope you’re enjoying the Fall season as much as I am! The past couple of weeks have been crazy. I walked my first runway show and then I got sick with what might have been the flu! Now that I’m better, I hope to share updates as frequently as I had been. Until next time…

“Bangs” on Fleek

Hi Babes!

So, you know me on Instagram as @KweenOfDC, and of course, from right here on my blog! But I wanted to share more of my personality with you, so I’m taking my first foray into the world of YouTube!

When I appeared on my Instagram story the other day with full bangs, so many of you were asking “did you cut your hair?!” The answer is no! In this video, I’ll show you how I achieved the look of ‘fringe’ with some simple tools you probably already have at home and your own hair! No extensions. No clip ons. Enjoy!

Date Night: At the Disco

Hi Babes!

Ok, raise your hand if you’ve ever been to a silent disco? 🙋🏻

A couple weekends ago, I took Michael to his very first silent disco during Washington DC’s free, annual, overnight arts festival “Art All Night,” which takes place across 8 neighborhoods in the District.

So if you’ve never been to a silent disco, here’s how it works…

Upon arriving, we were handed a nice pair of headphones that had three channel settings. Each channel is tuned to a different DJ, so if you don’t like what DJ1 is playing, you can move on to DJ2 or DJ3. This leaves partygoers with no excuse to NOT shake their booties.

headset2

Each DJ’s channel is assigned a colored LED light so that you can figure out what your friends are listening to. This particular disco was an ode to hiphop and each DJ had their own vibe going, so unlike your typical dance party, there was truly never a moment where we couldn’t find a groove we liked.

The coolest thing about this event, for me, was the location. The disco was held in the Shaw/U Street neighborhood in the courtyard directly across from the Howard Theatre, beneath the bright “Washington” mural on One Love Massive HQ’s wall. As people were heading to the bars and restaurants nearby, they stopped en masse to watch the ‘disco’ in total amusement. It’s gotta be pretty hilarious to watch a group of beautiful, happy, people twerk and sing their hearts out with no background music!

DJ

This event was SO. FUN. and an awesome reminder of why I love living in D.C. We are more than just a federal district. This community is filled with amazing, diverse people who work hard but know how to play just as hard, too. It’s part of the reason why I started this blog: to share with all of you the spice of life that can be enjoyed in the nation’s capital! Thanks to Silent Party DC for having us.

Check out their next event happening on Halloweekend.

What I Wore

So I’m not gonna lie, I probably could have chose a more practical outfit (dancing in an 100% alpaca sweater is not the cutest idea.) But at the same time, I actually loved this look! I felt soooo confident and classy.

IMG_0190

I’m wearing a marigold sweater by Mara Hoffman (check my last blog for more on why this color will be in my closet all season long!) What I love most about this sweater is that its quality is its biggest attribute. When you look at the piece aesthetically, it’s pretty understated. It’s mid-length and has beautiful rounded sleeves. But the look and feel of it in person is what makes it special.

IMG_0176

I finished the look with a leather pencil skirt by Eloquii, in which I french-tucked the sweater, statement earrings by Lizzie Fortunato and some caged heels from Forever21 that have been in my closet for years. I’ll drop a link to a similar pair below, but a true fashionista always mixes the old with the new and the bargains with the expensive!

#OOTD: Jewel Tones, Velvet, Romantic Florals

Hi babes!

Once fall merchandise began to circulate into retail stores back in August, I’ve found myself obsessed with everything and anything jewel-toned. It’s really coming out in full force with my wardrobe choices this week!

As we all learned in the famous “cerulean sweater” scene in The Devil Wears Prada, this is no coincidence at all! Colors are a vital characteristic of fashion, and back in February, Pantone advised that some striking jewel tones would be among the top color trends on the Fall/Winter 2018 runways. From this report, there are 3 colors that are really speaking to me right now: Red Pear, Russet Orange & Quetzal Green.

Re: The middle swatch: there’s a Mara Hoffman marigold sweater hanging in my closet right now that I’m crazy about, and it’s coming up in a future blog, so today these outfits will focus on the other two colors.

Romantic Floral & Velvet

Facetune_02-10-2018-17-52-08

I loved this look! It has the jewel tones, but it also has the high waisted velvet pants which made this look feel very romantic and retro. Since I had to run errands after work, I opted to wear loafers, but a chunky heel would also pull this look together nicely.

And the bag. THE BAG. I’m currently renting this one from Rent The Runway, but I’m seriously considering a purchase. I’m a fan of structured bags, but sometimes they have the same boring shape and lack detail. The gold ring handles on this tote are a gorgeous touch, and in my opinion, the bag elevates the whole look.

Jewel-Toned Tee and Boots

IMG_0608

One of my favorite inclusive brands of the moment is Universal Standard, a female-owned company that has a mission to bring “fashion for all women up to a Universal Standard.” The kicker: the brand offers “fit liberty,” which means they’ll replace any piece in their Fit Liberty collection that doesn’t fit anymore within a year of purchase, for FREE.

“Tee Rex’ is a classic tee with a curved hem, and it’s the perfect fall staple. The tee is available in white, black, slate, eggplant and forest green (pictured). I can’t praise the quality and fit of this tee enough. The fabric is soft, yet sturdy, and the fit immediately seemed to cascade over my curves in the most flattering way! I can’t tell you how hard it is for me to find a t-shirt that’s not overly boxy.  It also arrives in a sleek reusable tote, which was a nice touch.

I was able to try this style for free after taking advantage of a giveaway that Universal Standard offered in partnership with Buzzfeed’s As/Is. The giveaway has unfortunately ended, but you can still receive a coupon code for $25 off by subscribing to the As/Is newsletter.
